Ramos works to win
The Austin Bulldog
Oct 16, 2026Ramos is proud of being part of the DSA movement that put New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani and others in public office. “Working people are wanting solutions,” he said. “Across the nation we’re hearing about affordability crises. Folks are tired of politics as usual. I’m proud to have the DSA’s endorsement that puts working people first and keeps corporate and special interests out of our politics and brings things to the community.”

When the socialists filed into the pews of a church sanctuary in Texas, there were far more than would have attended just two years ago.
In the church sanctuary, Ramos revved up the audience.“If you believe housing is a human right, say ‘Yeah!’” he shouted. “If you believe in a free Palestine and abolishing ICE, say ‘Hell yeah!’”
Ramos said he tries to bring lofty and longer-term goals — housing for everyone, defunding the police — down to earth while running for office. For example, he talks about using city land for affordable housing or diverting police funding to mental health responders. -

“At the end of the day, I am one of many cases that have been impacted," Ramos said. Ramos reflected on his arrest:
“Luckily, I’ve been informed on Know Your Rights training. … But for those that aren’t, this could have been a very terrifying experience, and could have escalated even quicker,” Ramos said.
“There are too many people depending on us. There’s too many people who are vulnerable, who are at the edges, who could potentially be not only exploited in these situations, but also harmed in other ways.
“We just have to do better as a community and as a constituency.” -

"This should not be happening. This should not be happening on our streets. This is such an issue. Not only did they not show up with a warrant. They didn't show me a warrant," Ramos said at the news conference.
"They also pulled up in three to four unmarked vans. I have the privilege of being connected to my community, of having people who have my back, but there are so many families out here who do not have that same privilege." -

Why are you running for this office and what is your top priority? We need to bring down costs for working families and restore their voices to City Hall. I will stand up to developer interests, tech billionaires, and the status quo to make Austin safer, more inclusive, and truly affordable.
How do you view city spending and taxing, and would you pursue any specific fiscal strategies in office?
Instead of cuts, consolidations, and layoffs, the city should focus on reigning in contracts and consultants failing to deliver on both the basics and the ambitious goals we have as a city. I will defend workers and propose solutions to expand the city’s capacity to deliver for our communities.
